The festive season is here and so is the pandemic but it seems that the Delhi folks have forgotten about the pandemic with the festive fever on their mind. With the daily spike happening again and the pollution in the city still hovering around the severe category, Delhi is progressing on a path to become the ‘corona capital of the country.’
While hearing a bunch of petitions relating to non-payment of salaries to doctors, paramedical staff, sanitization workers and other such staff employed with the Civic bodies, the two-judges bench of the Delhi High Court pulled up on the ruling AAP Government.
A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad said the Delhi government has gone completely “haywire” on the pandemic. The Bench also observed that the Government has put the citizen’s health at stake and it is going to take up this matter separately.
On Thursday, the city reported 6,715 cases from 58,910 tests. The death count rose to 6,769, with 66 deaths being reported. The Delhi HC also pulled up the Central and the State Government regarding their ongoing financial dispute that has resulted in non-payment of salaries to much crucial staff and that too in this crucial period of pandemic.
“The city could soon become Corona capital of the country. Thanks to the number of cases shooting up,” the bench said. The Bench also remarked that they are going to take it very seriously.
The Delhi HC also added that it can act as an arbitrator between the Central and State government to resolve their ongoing financial disputes and pulled up the Central Government regarding their deaf ears towards the Delhi government letter asking for funds. The Court asked very tough questions to both the Governments regarding the suffering of the unpaid employees in the festive season.
The court listed the matter for further hearing on December 16 and has asked the parties to file a fresh status report. With a steep rise in Covid Count and a hazardous pollution level, the city is still choking. The Delhi Government yesterday imposed a blanket ban on all the firecrackers inclusion green one’s from November 7 to November 30. It will be very interesting to see how this order will be implemented when people are not following the precautionary measures despite the Prime Minister himself addressing them regarding the need to follow all the safety measures. Like all orders, people will blow this order in the air along with the firecrackers.
