West Bengal Announces Stricter 7-Day Lockdown Starting From July 9

With the objective to flatten the curve of the coronavirus graph in the state, Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal has announced a weeklong lockdown in the containment zones starting from 5 pm dated 9th July 2020. She has also mentioned that she will review the situation after seven days and then decide the next course of action on lockdown.
Last Wednesday, the state had witnessed the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 986 fresh infections taking the state’s case count to 24,823, the health department said in a bulletin. So, the restrictions in the containment zones will be very strict. The police will be posted outside to ensure people don’t enter or exit the containment zones.
Kolkata city has 33 containment zones, while in neighboring South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal, there are 155 and 219 such zones, respectively, according to an official data. This data also states that Ultadanga, Phool Bagan, Kankurgachi, Hudco, Beliaghata, Bhowanipore, Alipore, Bijoygarh, Jadavpur, New Alipore, Kasba, Mukundapur, and Ajaynagar are among the 33 containment zones in Kolkata.
