There are rumors that Sachin Pilot may return to his camp, i.e. the Gehlot’s Congress Party in Rajasthan. If media reports are to be believed, Sachin Pilot had a ‘very fruitful’ meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The sources say that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra played a very crucial role in convincing Sachin to return to ‘his own’ party. Sources also say that during the meeting Sachin Pilot got emotional as well. He said that he had nothing against the Congress Party. It was the biased behavior by Ashok Gehlot and his team towards him that forced him to take such a decision.
In fact, the MLA from Churu and one of the confidants of Sachin Pilot, Bhanwar Lal Sharma has come on record to say that “Party is like a family and Ashok Gehlot is its head”. Interestingly, this is the same Bhanwar Lal Sharma whom Congress Party had alleged to have played conspiracy against the Rajasthan Government. He is the same MLA who, as per Randeep Surjewala, had talked to Gajendra Shekhawat and whose audiotape the Congress Party released in a press conference.
So, what has happened now? Who conspired against whom? Who blackmailed whom? And in this entire episode, what those 18 MLAs achieved who camped with Sachin Pilot?
Clearly, if Sachin Pilot returns to Gehlot’s camp after all this drama, he will further intensify his ‘identity crisis’ as a promising politician. He will also lose the faith of his followers who wanted to see him as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. And above all, he’ll level himself as someone who cannot be trusted, not anymore. In politics, trust still has some value.
And, if Ashok Gehlot manages to pull back Sachin Pilot and other rebel MLAs, he will further solidify his identity as a veteran politician who knows what, how, and when to play which card. Ashok Gehlot will emerge as someone who managed the Rahuls and the Priyankas of the Congress to act on his terms. Clearly, this will be a threat to Congress’s headquarter as well. 10 Janpath would not like to have one more ‘Captain’ to deal with.
All said and done, if Sachin Pilot returns to Gehlot’s camp, that will be a very disappointing end to the high-voltage drama that kept everyone on his toes for almost 30 days. It would be like a Hollywood movie that ends before the climax. And the name of that movie could be “The Dilemma called Sachin Pilot”.
