Supreme Court orders CBI probe in Sushant Singh Rajput case

As anticipated by the millions of fans and followers of Sushant Singh Rajput, the Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 19, passed the order that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), will investigate actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. The court also added that the FIR lodged by Sushant’s father in Patna was completely lawful and the Bihar government is well under its capabilities to give its consent for a CBI investigation.

And, the Supreme Court also ordered the Maharashtra government to provide all possible assistance to CBI in the matter. The court said that this is a court-ordered CBI investigation, therefore, everyone is directed to cooperate.

The Supreme Court passed its order on the plea filed by actress Rhea Chakraborty, the prime accused in the case, seeking transfer of the Patna FIR to Mumbai and let Mumbai Police do the investigation. Rhea Chakraborty has also raised questions on the powers of the Bihar Police to lodge the FIR. Later, the Bihar government and the central government also submitted their pleas seeking transfer of the case to the CBI.

Sushant’s father KK Singh had filed the FIR in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty and six others for alleged offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 306 (abetment of suicide), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

The order by the Supreme Court is looked upon as the first step towards justice to Sushant Singh Rajput. Many celebrities, friends, and family of Sushant Singh Rajput welcomed this decision by the Supreme Court. Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister, Shweta Singh Kirti expressed her happiness with a series of tweets posted soon after the apex court verdict. Shweta also expressed her faith in the CBI.

It is to be noted that the Maharashtra government was continuously opposing the involvement of CBI in the case. The government defended Mumbai Police and said that the investigation being conducted by the Mumbai Police was up to the mark and no one should question the agency. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, went a step ahead and accused the family of Sushant Singh Rajput of playing politics in the matter. Sanjay Raut even insulted Sushant’s father on many occasions.
