Special CBI Court pronounces acquittal of all 32 accused in Babri Masjid demolition case

The court said there was no conclusive proof against the accused. “They have been acquitted for lack of evidence,”

Announcing the closure of the Babri Masjid Demolition case that stretched up to 28 years, the Special judge Surendra Kumar Yadav pronounced the verdict where he acquitted all the 32 accused, including LK Adwani, MM Joshi, and Kalyan Singh. The CBI Court found that the incident was not pre-planned and therefore, no accused can be convicted for the same.

The court said there was no conclusive proof against the accused. “They have been acquitted for lack of evidence,” defense lawyer KK Mishra said. A total of 26 accused attended the hearing in person, while the other 6 attended via video conferencing.

The list of 32 accused who were made a party to this incidence included some of the big names like former deputy prime minister LK Advani, former Union ministers MM Joshi and Uma Bharti, and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the verdict and tweeted “Satyamev Jayate”.

The Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992, by a mob in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
