Congress has appointed controversial Patidar leader Hardik Patel as the Working President of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee.
Congress’s Interim Chief Sonia Gandhi on Saturday had approved the proposal to nominate Hardik Patel as the working president of the party’s Gujarat unit. Amit Chavda is currently the chief of the Gujarat unit of the Congress Party.
Patidars constitute a major portion of the overall votes in Gujarat and Hardik Patel has been seen as the single leader with a substantial influence on them. Therefore, this move is likely to boost the Congress party’s hold and popularity among the powerful Patel community in Gujarat.
Hardik Patel came into limelight when in the year 2015 he launched a movement for reservation for his community in the state. Later, ahead of the assembly elections in the year 2017, Hardik formally joined Congress party.
