Sharjeel Imam, one of the masterminds behind CAA protest, tests positive for coronavirus

The Delhi riot accused and the preacher of ‘chopping the chicken’s neck’ conspiracy, Sharjeel Imam has tested positive for coronavirus. Sharjeel Imam is currently under Assam Police custody and is in Guwahati Jail. The Delhi Police special cell was scheduled to bring him to Delhi for interrogation in the Delhi riot case.

During the CAA and NCR protest in Delhi, Sharjeel Imam gave various inflammatory speeches where he propagated to cut-off Assam and the entire northeast from mainland India. He provoked the Muslims to cut Assam’s connectivity from other parts of India by blocking the railway network. For his controversial speeches, he was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) registered by the Assam Police.

Imam was arrested on January 28 from Bihar’s Jehanabad district. He was absconding after giving provocative speeches in Delhi against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) near the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in December 2019.

On July 10, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the plea file by Sharjeel Imam where he challenged the trial court’s order granting three more months to the Delhi Police to conduct the interrogation.
