PM extends Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana till November 2020, ensures free ration to 80-crore people

In his address to the nation at 4 PM today on June 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana till November 2020. Being considered as a major announcement, nearly 80 crore people will get 5 kilos of wheat or rice per month under this scheme.

PM Modi also announced that all these families will also get 1 kilo of grams (chana) every month for the next 5 months until November 2020. Narendra Modi said the government will bear the entire cost of the extension of this scheme that comes around Rs 90,000 crore.

In his address, PM Modi also thanked the farmers and the honest taxpayers who helped the government feed the poor and the needy during the Coronavirus pandemic. This was PM Modi’s sixth address since March when the coronavirus outbreak happened in the country.

However, PM Modi also warned the citizens to follow the precautionary measures to stay protected from the COVID19 infection. He said that the citizens have started showing carelessness and negligence once the government started the unlock process.

The Prime Minister urged the countrymen to keep following social distancing while maintaining extra caution during Monsoon season, during which symptoms of cold, cough, and fever see a rise.
