Pakistan’s Health Minister Zafar Mirza tests positive for Coronavirus

With Pakistan, irony redefines itself every day. The latest ironically complex incidence happened when the Health Minister of Pakistan Dr. Zafar Mirza tested positive for COVID-19.

On Monday, July 6, the minister tweeted, “I have tested positive for COVID-19. Under med advice, I have isolated myself at home & taking all precautions.”

He further wrote, “I have mild symptoms. Please keep me in your kind prayers. Colleagues, keep up the good work! You are making a big difference & I am proud of you.” Ironically, Dr. Zafar Mirza is also accused of having smuggled protection masks out of Pakistan.

Eventually, Dr. Zafar Mirza is not the first minister of the Imran Khan Niyazi government in Pakistan. Earlier on July 3, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had informed that he also had tested positive for coronavirus and has quarantined himself.

Out of the total population of 22 crores in Pakistan, more than 2 lakh people are infected by COVID-19. This makes Pakistan one of the worst-hit countries in the world on the population ration.

Several Pakistani political leaders and cricketers including veteran Shahid Afridi have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past few months.
