#MeToo ghost haunts Anurag Kashyap as Payal Ghosh accuses him of sexual harassment

Payal, in her accusations, has claimed that when she had approached director Anurag Kashyap in the year 2014, he had asked her to offer herself in return to a role in Anurag’s movie.

The ghost of the #MeToo campaign is back. This time it is haunting ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ fame director Anurag Kashyap. Actress Payal Ghosh has accused Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment. Payal, in her accusations, has claimed that when she had approached director Anurag Kashyap in the year 2014, he had asked her to offer herself in return to a role in Anurag’s movie. Payal also said that Anurag then forced himself on to her and Payal had to push him off to save herself.

Payal tweeted, “@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help!”

Apparently, when Payal refused to surrender herself, Anurag told her there are many women who come to him to spend ‘Good Times’. Payal said that Anurag named actresses Mahi Gill, Huma Qureshi, and Richa Chaddha and said they are just a call away. Finally, Anurag asked her to be ‘mentally prepared’ if she comes to her the next time.

In reaction to the claims made by Payal Ghosh, Anurag Kashyap, as expected, rejected everything and said these are “baseless claims”. Anurag posted a series of tweets where he tried to justify his character.

Kashyap tweeted, “Wow, you tried to silence me since so long. No problem. While silencing me, you kept on lying so much that others got involved in the lie too. Keep some dignity, madam. All I want to say is that all the allegations against me are baseless.”

His next tweet read, “In the process of accusing me you tried to drag my artists and the Bachchan family but failed. Madam I have been married twice, if that’s my crime then I accept it, and have loved a lot, I accept that too. Whether it was my first wife or the second, or any other lover, or the many actresses I have worked with, or that team of girls and women who has always been working with me, or the many women who I met in private or in public.”

Well, it is not the first instance where an actress has spoken about the ‘sex for role’ deals in Bollywood. During the #MeToo campaign, many women associated with Bollywood came out and broke their silence on this issue. However, looking at the timing of this allegation, the problems for Anurag Kashyap is surely going to increase in the days to come. There are multiple agencies that are already scanning the Bollywood from different angles. It has already been established that Bollywood is one of the biggest consumers of drugs in India. And under these circumstances, if the agencies take up this case, it will be an end to Anurag’s career.
