If you have started feeling a loss of your smelling and tasting abilities in recent times, you should get your coronavirus test done as soon as possible. The Health Ministry, in its recently published document, has added “loss of smell and taste” as new symptoms of COVID-19.

The ministry has added nine more symptoms in the document “Clinical Management Protocol: COVID-19”. The other symptoms are fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, expectoration, myalgia, rhinorrhea, sore throat, and diarrhea.

The Health Ministry also explained how the person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus happens. The Ministry, in the document, said that the direct person-to-person transmission occurs through close contact, mainly through respiratory droplets that are released when the infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.

The Health Ministry has also raised concerns about elderly persons and persons with chronic ailments. The Ministry said that those who are over 60 years are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus. Those with underlying non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac disease, among others, are also at high risk.
