IPL 2020 likely to be played in UAE from September 26

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be played in UAE between September 26 and November 7. As per the media reports, The BCCI on Friday, July 17, discussed the possibilities of the IPL to be played in the UAE in its entirety.

The reports also suggest that various IPL franchises have also started preparing for the T20 tournament. However, the final confirmation is yet to be made by the BCCI, the governing body for Cricket in India. Apparently, it is believed that BCCI is waiting for the ICC to announce the postponement of the men’s T20 World Cup that is otherwise scheduled between October 18 and November 15.

The ICC is expected to take a call on the dates for the men’s T20 World Cup on July 20. If ICC postpones the dates of the men’s T20 World Cup, which is almost a certainty now, it is expected that BCCI would also formally announce the fixtures for the IPL 2020 season in UAE.

It is being reported that BCCI has already written to the Indian government seeking permission for IPL 2020 to be shifted to UAE. It has also sought necessary travel permission for the players and officials of the teams.

Earlier the IPL 2020 was scheduled to start from April 5. However, due to the sudden outbreak of the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic, the government announced the nationwide lockdown, forcing BCCI to cancel the tournament.
