Indore adjudged as the cleanest city for the 4th straight year

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2020 and Indore got adjudged India’s cleanest city for the fourth consecutive year in the Cleanliness Survey. Surat and Navi Mumbai were ranked second and third respectively in the survey, announced on Thursday, August 20.

The Swachh Survekshan Awards 2020 was announced by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at a ceremony.

Housing Minister Hardeep Puri congratulating the people of Indore for winning the award for the fourth straight year. In his congratulatory tweet, the Housing Minister said, “Heartiest congratulations! Indore is India’s cleanest city 4th year in a row. The city & its people have shown exemplary dedication towards cleanliness. Congratulations to MP CM Shivraj Chouhan, people, political leadership, and Municipal Corporation for this superlative performance.”

The Ministry also released the ranking of cleanest Ganga towns, i.e. cities that are situated on the banks of the holy river Ganga. Interestingly, Varanasi was selected as the ‘best Ganga town’ in the central government’s cleanliness survey. Varanasi is also the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Housing Minister Hardeep Puri tweeted, “The Ancient holy town of Varanasi is rightfully the cleanest town on the banks of river Ganga. Heartiest congratulations to PM Narendra Modi Ji, who represents the city in Lok Sabha, for his visionary leadership which has inspired the people of the town for this achievement.”

Swachh Survekshan Awards are given to the cities that score highest ranks in the cleanliness standards. The awards were started by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
