India surpasses Russia, becomes third most-hit COVID19 country

India is now the third most affected country in the world by COVID-19. Russia has 6,81,251 cases while India has more than 6,90,000 cases. The authorities in India have been recording more than 20,000 coronavirus cases consecutively for the last 5 days. The total death toll has also crossed 19,000. It now stands at 19,268.

The ministry of health data showed a record single-day surge of 24,850 coronavirus cases. However, many states have re-imposed lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus. In spite of the efforts, many states recorded their highest single-day spikes in the COVID19 cases. The states of Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and West Bengal recorded their highest single-day jump in cases on Sunday.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state. The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra crossed the 2-lakh tally. Whereas, Tamil Nadu and Delhi stayed at second and third positions.
