The inclusion of Jammu and Kashmir in India finally gets completed as the central Government amends the Land Laws of the state. Now, any citizen of India can buy non-agricultural land in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The story of the complete inclusion of Jammu and Kashmir into India started on the 5th of August 2019. As normalcy is setting in the valley, there are continuous efforts made to bring Kashmir into the mainstream creating an environment of business as usual. One of the new rules introduced in the valley is the right to the non-domiciled Indians to buy non-agricultural and urban land in the UT.

The intellectual opinion except politically-motivated narratives is mainly silent on this and there are very few reactions on this particular law except the valley itself. Gupkar parties (an alliance of all parties including National Conference, PDP, CPI, CPM, and People’s conference) have claimed it a betrayal to the Kashmiris and has asked the center to roll back the decision. Omar Abdullah went ahead and said that the center has put Kashmir on sale.

However, there are many Kashmiris residing outside Kashmir, have welcomed the move. The rest of India has also welcomed the step taken by the central government.

Although in the middle of all this the LG of J&K Manoj Sinha gave an interview to a daily English newspaper “Indian Express” in which he said that “ekdum ashwastha rahiye kisi ko zameen nhi de jayegi (rest assured, the land will not be given to anybody). But if someone wants to put up an industry then the land has to be given for that, that will be done through industrial parks”

It is left to witness that how the rule published in the official gazette will going to unfold on the ground on the valley and the masses will going to react to it. As far as the central government s concerned, they are continuing with their policy of bringing Kashmir into the main fold along with other states and sometimes without even any opposition.
