Delhi High Court grants bail to Safoora Zargar, one of the prime accused in Delhi Riots

The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Safoora Zargar on a personal bond of Rs 10,000. Safoora Zargar was arrested for her role in the violence in Northeast Delhi in February 2020. She is charged with UAPA, an anti-terror law.
Eventually, Zargar is 6-months pregnant and this became the ground for her bail. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared in the High Court on behalf of Delhi Police, also did not oppose the court’s decision on humanitarian grounds.
However, the court ordered Safoora to stay in touch with the investigating officers of the case. She has been asked to call the officials once every 15 days. She will also have to seek prior approval from the investigating officers for outstation travel.
Safoora is accused of enticing and leading a violent mob to Jaffarabad metro station. She is also said to have provoked a group of women to sit on an anti-CAA protest near Jaffarabad metro station.
