Delhi Government Converts All Nursing Homes with 10-49 Beds as COVID Hospitals

Ahead of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Sunday, June 14, 2020, the APP-led Government on Saturday (June 13) night passed an order declaring all nursing homes in the national capital, which have 10-49 beds, as ‘COVID nursing homes’.

The Delhi government has given directions to all such nursing homes to prepare their beds as per ICMR norms in three days, by June 16, 2020. The government also directed the nursing homes to ensure both COVID patients and non-COVID patients are treated separately.

Though the government has taken this decision to augment its bed capacity to treat COVID patients, it’s big claims of preparedness are falling flat on all standards. Delhi reported more than 2000 cases on consecutive days in the last two days, taking the count to more than 39,000. It is now the third-most infected state in India. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the first two worst-hit states.

Experts speculate that during the meeting Amit Shah is going to evaluate Delhi Government’s preparedness to fight the rising cases of COVID19 patients in the National Capital Territory. Members of SDMA and AIIMS are also scheduled to be present during the meeting.
