Congress drops Ghulam Nabi Azad from his post, sends message to the 23 dissenters
Ghulam Nabi Azad was one of the 23 leaders who had written the letter to the party chief Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress Party, on Friday, September 11, restructured its working committee where it removed senior leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, Mallikarjun Kharge, Motilal Vora, and others, from their posts.
The new members of the Congress Working Committee will be–Digvijay Singh, Manickam Tagore, Rajiv Shukla, Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid, HK Patil, Pramod Tiwari, Dinesh Gundurao, Pawan Bansal, Kuljit Nagra, and Manish Chatrath
This major organizational shuffling in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) happened on the expected lines. After the last meeting of the CWC where 23 senior leaders of the Congress Party had submitted their concerns, it was very much expected that those dissented members would be taught a lesson.
Ghulam Nabi Azad was one of the 23 leaders who had written the letter to the party chief Sonia Gandhi. By removing him from his post of General Secretary, the Congress Party leadership has made it clear that those who are ready to be the ‘Yes-man’ can expect to grow in the party. And those who show any hint of dissent will be shown the doors.
It is, perhaps, for this reason, that Randeep Surjewala, Rahul Gandhi’s close aid and one of the advisors, gained big and got included in the high-power six-member panel formed to advise the Congress President.
Many political analysts say that Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, also used to have a similar core advisory group. Ironically, those analysts also say that it was due to this core advisory group that Rajiv Gandhi lost his personal connection with the general public and became highly dependent on advice given by this group.
