Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO pulls out of IPL sponsorship

The Chinese mobile manufacturing company VIVO has withdrawn itself as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. The Chinese firm took this decision due to the ongoing nationwide backlash against the Chinese companies.
Apparently, VIVO has paid Rs 2,199 crore for a five-year contract in the year 2018. This would have been the third year of the contract. Though, the company has not terminated the contract. The withdrawal is only for this year’s IPL.
Ironically, the BCCI, on Sunday, August 2, had clarified that it will retain all the sponsors. However, VIVO decided to drop out of the sponsorship for this year’s edition following the growing anger against the Chinese companies and the products.
BCCI announced the schedule of IPL 2020 on Sunday and since then it is being criticized for retaining Chinese brand as the title sponsor. Eventually, BCCI is the richest cricket control body in the world.
IPL 2020 will be played from 19th September and the final will be played on 10th November 2020. The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.
