CBI reaches Mumbai, starts investigating Sushant Singh Rajput death case

As the Supreme Court orders the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the high-profile Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the special team of the CBI has started its probe on Friday, August 21.

The CBI team has reached Mumbai has started collecting the evidence from the crime scene. CBI has started questioning the staff of the deceased Bollywood actor. Another team of CBI also met the Mumbai Police and asked them to hand over the case records, including the post-mortem report.

CBI has formed a 10-member team to investigate the matter. The team is being led by Superintendent of Police Nupur Prasad.  

CBI has also called its forensic experts from the CBI’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory to re-examine the crime scene and re-create the incidence if required.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14. As the Mumbai Police outrightly declared the cause of death as a suicide and did not investigate the matter properly, the demand for a CBI inquiry in the matter kept rising.

The demand for CBI inquiry also created a buzz in the political corridors of the country. When the Mumbai Police refused to cooperate Bihar Police and on the contrary, questioned their jurisdiction, the Bihar government had to recommend the case to CBI. The Uddhav Thackeray-led maha Vikas Agadi government in Maharashtra had, since the beginning, refused to refer the case to CBI.

Finally, the accused Rhea Chakraborty approach the Supreme Court seeking a stay on CBI investigation and allowing the Mumbai Police only to investigate the matter. And, when all other parties in the case, i.e. Bihar Government, Maharashtra Government, and the Central government submitted their affidavits in the Supreme Court, the court on Wednesday, August 19, ordered the CBI investigation in the matter.

The top court also asked the Mumbai police to hand over all evidence it has collected to the investigating agency and said any other case registered in connection with the actor’s death would also be investigated by the CBI.
