Assam now has more than 11,000 coronavirus cases

The number of coronavirus cases in Assam is growing at a rapid rate. Assam recorded 1,202 fresh COVID19 cases on July 4, the highest single-day increase so far. Assam happens to be the largest state among the seven sister states in the Northeast.
“In the biggest spike ever, Assam on 4th July reported 1202 cases, 777 of these from Guwahati city alone. Time for all of us to be extra vigilant,” tweeted Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The total number of infected cases in Assam now stands at 11,001. The biggest surge in the cases has been reported from the Kamrup Metro district when the authorities recorded 777 new infections in a single day.
Taking precautionary measures, the Assam government had already imposed a 14-day complete lockdown in the Kamrup Metro district that includes Guwahati. The complete lockdown started from June 28, only medicine shops have been allowed to open during this lockdown.
